The kid jumps off a coffee table,
Believing he is superman,
“you cannot jump off a coffee table”
The kid stops seeing the coffee table as the top of a building.
Why do they teach us history in school?
Why not teach me how to get a girlfriend?
Or how to become Spiderman,
Or simply teach us about the future…
We are so caught up in the past,
In the recurrences,
In the repeating events,
In the several steps that lead to the downfall of the Soviet union,
That we don’t look around,
And imagine ourselves as superman,
Jumping off the top of a building,
We all start as creators and dreamers,
We end up becoming producers and workers,
As a fish to a shark,
So a kid to a man,
The fish dies, and so does the kid.
I wrote this after listening to this monologue by kanye west…. He says that we reprimanding the kid for jumping of the coffee table makes him think he cannot do it… We don’t say why he cannot do it, we simply just tell him to not… And soon the coffee tables build up and before you know it, the kid is a man.
