The trap of social media and how we have been reduced to a lesser form

Introduction

YOU are human, I am human, the person who taught us how to walk, was human. Basically we are much more than what we think we are. In the last century, we created the atom bomb, we went to the moon, we sent a robot to mars. Basically, we have done a lot of stuff in the past century and they were done be people no smarter than you or me.

But when it comes to social media, we are not human, we are just a user, a user who will help them boost their platform. We are nothing more than cattle to them (Them as in the creators of these apps).

Persuasive technology and its traps

As you watch social media, or more specifically, “persuasive technology” or shorts, reels, tiktoks, or whatever other version there is, we are sedated. You remember taking a study break for 5 minutes after a good productive study session? And 1 hour later you realise you accidentally increased the length of the break you took.

I want you to understand, it is made for us to waste our time. I know I sound like every “self-improvement macho” out there, but like, this is the truth.

If you spend just 3 hours everyday on these shorts apps, you spend 36 days just doing nothing but scrolling. Do you realise how dumb that actually sounds. Cause like, I know the mentality us teens have, “3 hours a day is not much time”. But a whole month in the year you spend on an app sounds crazy.

iPhone and where it all went wrong

The iPhone was supposed to be the bicycle of the mind. Made to transcend us to a higher level. To connect us to other people with similar interests, to do everything the human mind would like but in one device. That’s what the iPhone was.

But now, as other companies adopted that model, most of us using internet spend a lot of time on our phones. The fact is, do you realise this, or do you try to unsee the seen.

Conclusion

I wrote this one dear reader, cause I have myself realised I’m spending way too much time on my phone and way less time appreciation the beauty of this world.

Thank You <3
